The Clear Lake Lion girls advanced to the second round of regionals Monday night after defeating the New Hampton Chickasaws by a score of 2-0.
Taking a first half lead, the game was still in view for New Hampton.
The second half saw the Lions add an insurance goal to lead 2-0 and keep New Hampton out of the goal.
Offensively, the game saw only five shots on goal for the Lions and 10 shots altogether, however, senior Perla Velasquez was able to score one for Clear Lake as was junior Addison Jones.
Jones was a force for the Lions with four shots, three of which were on goal.
Madi Moore, a Clear Lake senior, was also busy on the night with three shots, but none landed at their mark.
Rowan O’Keefe, the Lions junior keeper, had nine saves on the night to help keep the Lions on top of the Chickasaws.
The Lions traveled to Garner on Wednesday, May 15, where they faced the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Cardinals.
Results of that contest will appear in next week’s Clear Lake Mirror-Reporter.
