Boys soccer on to round 2

The Clear Lake Lion boys soccer team added two wins to its total to improve to 8-7 on the season after wins against Belmond-Klemme and Hampton-Dumont-CAL.

Belmond-Klemme 1

The Lions were able to break even once again against the Belmond-Klemme Broncos, defeating them 4-1.  After a close first half came to and end, the Lions were leading 2-1.

The second half saw the Lions take a 3-1 lead before ending with the 4-1 victory.  The game was elevated by strong play from Andrew Korenberg and Kinnick Clabaugh, both seniors.

The Lions had 10 shots on goal and Lion goalie Caleb Hall saw 10 saves with one goal allowed.

The Lions worked their way to an 8-7 record with a big win over the Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs on Friday, May 10.  The  Lions lead at the end of the first half by a 2-1 score.

The Bulldogs battled and kept things close but it was the Lions that came out on top. Both teams gave up one goal in the second half and the Lions jumped ahead of the Bulldogs.

The Lion scorers were led by junior Adrian Ros who scored two, while Korenberg scored once on four shots on goal.

Hall had five saves on the night.

The Clear Lake Lion boys meant business Monday night when the visiting Charles City Comets stepped onto the field.

The Lions found themselves in a scoring frenzy with 10 goals on the night.

The Lions put six balls in the net before the first half ended.

By the end of the second, the Lions had added four more which put the Lions in round two and will now face Benton at Benton on Monday, May 20, at 7 p.m.

In the Lions win, Andrew Korenberg and Kinnick Clabaugh led the team with four goals each.

Clabaugh had seven shots on goal and 11 shots altogether, while Korenberg had seven shots on the night with five on goal.

Adrian Ros and Marcelino Herreguin each had goals as well.

The Lion defense kept the goal safe, as well as keeper Caleb Hall who only had three saves on the night, but didn’t allow any goals.
