Lions headed to sub-state game against Webster City

Clear Lake 3

Benton Community 1

The Clear Lake Lion boys advanced to the Class 2A substate game after defeating the Benton Bobcats on Monday, May 20.

The win came against Benton on the road and the two sat tied after one period.

It was in the second when the Lion boys were able to get on top of the Bobcats, adding two more goals for insurance.

The Lion defense stiffened in the second and didn’t allow a goal with Caleb Hall sitting in the net.

Next up, the Lions (10-7) traveled to Webster City on Wednesday, May 22, to face the Lynx (14-1).

The Lynx will be a tall order for the Lions and defeating the fellow North Central Conference team will be a feat the Lions haven’t accomplished since 2022.

The Lynx hold a 17-7 all-time record against Clear Lake and the last two wins came this year by scores of 5-0 and 5-1.

In the event of a win, the Lions will find themselves in the midst of the State Soccer Tournament which will be held May 29-30 and June 1.
