The Clear Lake Lion baseball team defeated a tough 24-6 Algona Bulldog  team, 5-3, in Algona last Wednesday, July 3.

After two scoreless innings, both teams found a run to keep the game even but the Lions began to pull away with a two run inning in the fourth.

Adding a run in the top of the fifth put the Lions ahead 4-2 before Algona added two runs to be down by one.

Clear Lake added its fifth run in the top of the sixth. Luke Fuhrman, and the defense behind him, held the Bulldogs off the board to go home with a 15-9 record overall.

Dylan Bieber once again led the Lions with two hits and an RBI while the team collected five total hits and three RBI.

Andrew Theiss, Hudson Carney, Keeton Jeppeson, Dontrel Johnson and Drake Thomsen each had runs for Clear Lake.

On the mound was Jaxson Anderson to start the game and receive the win, pitching five innings and allowing three runs off six hits, walking three and striking out two.

Luke Fuhrman relieved Anderson, pitching two innings walking one and striking out three batters.

In the field, the Lions committed one error with 21 putouts and seven assists on 29 total chances.

The Clear Lake Lion baseball team ended its regular season this week with a victory over the Charles City Comets on Monday, July 8.

The win puts the Lions at 16-9 on the season as they head into district play against Waverly-Shell Rock on Friday, July 12.

In Monday’s win, the Lions put a run across home plate early in the first inning and would slowly chip away at the Comets, leading 4-0 after four innings.

The Comets would score one runner in the bottom of the fifth to make the 4-1 score as the Lions closed out the season.

It was a nine-hit game for Clear Lake, scoring four runs with Nick Strayer leading the bats with two hits, one run and a walk.

Jaxson Anderson, Dylan Bieber, Andrew Theiss, Hudson Carney, Wesley Wharton, Tanner Nelson and Keeton Jeppeson each had hits in the game.

The Lions had four RBI, two from Bieber and also Wharton.

The Lions utilized their bullpen with six pitchers making an appearance on the mound with Anderson pitching two innings and throwing 17 pitches. Anderson received the win allowing no runs, no hits and striking out two batters.

Luke Fuhrman pitched one inning and walked one with two strike outs, Bieber allowed one hit, Theiss allowed one hit and struck out three, Wharton allowed one hit and Nelson allowed one run off one hit, walked two and struck out one.

The Comets recorded four hits on the night with one run and one RBI and the mound allowed nine hits, four runs, walked two and struck out two batters.

The Lions finish third in the North Central Conference just behind Algona in first and Humboldt in second.
