It happens every year, but somehow we all forget. What are the rules about where I can park my car when city crews are doing snow removal?
Clear Lake Police Chief Pete Roth says his department has placed the city’s snow ordinance in effect twice so far during the 2022-23 snow season. In those instances he estimates less than 50 parking citations have been issued.
“The overall goal is not for us to write parking tickets, it is to have all vehicles removed from city streets so road crews can clear snow safely and efficiently,” explained Chief Roth. “Our message is, please move your vehicles off city streets and alleys until your area has been cleared AND the snow has stopped falling.”
The City goes to great lengths to let the public know when the ordinance is in effect.
“We utilize the local media, Facebook, Twitter, and Alert Iowa to help get the message out to the public,” said Roth. “We encourage all residents of Clear Lake and Ventura to sign up for ALERT IOWA. This is a free service that provides a phone call, email, and/or text message for severe weather events, local alerts, and snow ordinance announcements.”
