The Clear Lake girls wrestling team wrapped up its regular season and began post-season action Monday, Jan. 23. Monday’s meet at Hampton could not be called a “conference” meet, because the North Central Conference has not yet adopted girls wrestling as a sport. However, NCC teams Clear Lake, Algona, Humboldt and Iowa Falls, along with West Fork, participated.
Emery Hippen was the champion at 140-pounds for the Lions.
Emma Allie (135) and Olivia Fausnaugh (155) each finished second. Pieper Lester (115), Aali Martinez (120) and Rhi Youmans (125) were all third at their respective weights. Zoe Koontz (135) and Macey Brandt (170) were each fourth, while Shea Ulrich (105) and Missy Jones (170) were fifth.
MC 45, CL 21
Local wrestling fans were treated to a girls-boys meet at home against Mason City Tuesday, Jan. 17. The Riverhawks posted a 45-21 win. Three Lions won their matches: Aali Martinez at 120, Rhi Youmans at 125, and Olivia Fausnaugh at 155. The Lions also received points for an MCHS forfeit.
East Buchanan
The Lions were at East Buchanan Friday, Jan. 20, for their final regular season tourney. The top place winner for the team was Olivia Fausnaugh, second at 155-pounds.
Pieper Lester (115) earned third place, followed by Shae Ulrich (105) who was fourth. Aali Martinez (120) and Emma Allie (135) were each fifth.
