A Saint Ansgar, Iowa man has been arrested for invasion of privacy and interference with official acts after an incident was reported by a Clear Lake business.
Daryl E. Johnson, 52, is accused of secretly recording patrons of a tanning business in the 500 block of US Highway 18 East, Clear Lake.
According to Clear Lake Police Captain Mike Colby, the charges stem from an ongoing investigation regarding patrons of a tanning business. Investigators determined a digital recording device was placed by Johnson to intentionally record customers without their knowledge or consent.
A complaint filed with the court states that Johnson allegedly placed his cell phone atop a dividing wall separating tanning rooms at iSun Tan 24/7 in Clear Lake. The device was pointing into an adjacent room where a woman was tanning. The woman told investigators she did not know or consent to being filmed as she was undressing and using the tanning bed.
State records list the business as being owned by an entity registered to Johnson’s father, Norman Johnson.
Daryl Johnson was arrested Jan. 27 and transported to the Cerro Gordo County Jail.
The charge of Invasion of Privacy-Nudity is an aggravated missdemeanor. Interference with Official Acts is a simple misdemeanor.
Captain Colby noted the investigation remains open at this time. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective O’Keefe at 641-355-4405, or by email jokeefe@cityofclearlake.org.
