Clear Lake stepped onto the tournament trail with some pep in their step. The Lions ran over Saydel, 79-39, Saturday night in the Class 3A Region 4 first round.
The Lions (20-2) advanced to play Forest City (14-9) Wednesday night, Feb. 15. The Indians upset the Lions in a game played Jan. 8. Forest City defeated Iowa Falls-Alden in their post-season opener. The Region final will be played Saturday, Feb. 18, at a site to be determined.
The Lions made quick work of Saydel (6-17) in Saturday’s matchup.
Clear Lake grabbed a 26-5 first quarter lead and was well in control by the half, 43-16.
Jordan Mayland and Ayla Johnson paced the team with 14 and 12-points respectively. Reese Brownlee put in one, Brooklyn Eden seven, and Xada Johnson five-points. Coming off the bench was Madi Ott with 13, Carsyn Holland nine, Annika Nelson eight-points and Addison Doughan two.
Sisters Ayla and Xada Johnson controlled the boards with 10 and nine rebounds.
“It was a good first round game for us,”s aid Coach Bart Smith. “I loved how we rebounded tonight. Ayla, Xada, and Maddi Ott all had a good night getting extra possessions offensively for us. Madi, Annika, and Carsyn were great off the bench giving us valuable minutes. I think we have a really good, strong eight players that can contribute on every given night.”
