Gee receives salary increase

The Clear Lake School District Board of Education approved a 1.5 percent in salary and benefits package for Superintendent Doug Gee, bringing his salary to $230,392 during its June board meeting.

In a closed session the board members conducted a yearly performance review of Gee before unanimously approving the renewal of a three-year contract, which is typical for school administrators. Gee was hired by the district in 2016.

In other matters of note, District Goals related to ISASP Testing scores were presented to the board by Gee.

“We have made good gains in all our academic areas on the ISASP test, which is the state standardized test that all schools have to give every year,” Gee said. “We have also made great gains in our quarterly assessments in all grades.  We started implementing these three years ago and we continue to improve the Professional Learning Community (PLC) process.”

Clear Lake schools are raising the bar when it comes to student well-being – not only academically, but on a social and emotional level as well. Gee said the district has been using The Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener (SAEBRS), a reference tool used to identify students who are, or may be, at risk for social-emotional behavior problems.

Gee explained that SAEBRS is one of the only universal screening tools built to assess both the absence of problem behaviors and when a student may be internalizing and externalizing behaviors and may need some guidance.

“We have been using this to continue to help students with their social emotional health and we are doing some really good work with that.”
