There is a new face around the Madrid Register News and Ogden Reporter staff team. Kylea Mosley joins the group as a part-time news writer and has been working to find stories for the past week.
Mosley is a transplant from southwest Missouri but has called Iowa her home for the past 11 years. Her family moved to Algona where she attended Algona High School. She took part in track, cross country along with speech, drama and band/marching band.
Following her time in high school, Mosley went to Western Iowa Technical Community College in Sioux City, getting a paralegal associates degrees. She then had a two year gap where she worked as a paraeducator, waitress and bartender. Those positions took her all over the state.
“I think I decided to continue my education at Iowa State University,” she said. “There I received my Bachelor of Science in history.”
Mosley was encouraged by her professors to continue her education and stayed with Iowa State to get a master of arts in history, which she is still working on. While in Ames, Mosley has worked at various retail stores, offices and interfered with Iowa State University Museums. She currently works at the Iowa State University Foundation as a research specialist as well.
There was a simple reason as to why Mosley wanted to join up with the local newspapers.
“I decided to write for a newspaper simply because I love writing,” she said. “I believe that sharing news with the public keeps small towns together and keeps everyone in the loop about local events and going-ons that small communities need to know about to keep the people and town cohesive.”
Mosley finds it appealing to work in a smaller town because of the fun events and the people to talk too. She believes small towns take pride in what they do and develop, along with being proud of what they’ve done.
She doesn’t feel it’s going to be difficult to switch from her current position to help with the newspapers.
“Writing current events and history fall together quite easily because one day the current events will be history so I will be making life easier for future historians by recording what is happening now,” she said.
Mosley really looks forward to covering the holiday celebrations and local events. She stated she is a holiday lover, and if it was up to her, her Christmas tree would go up when November begins. She’s really looking forward to covering the local celebrations along with their traditions.
Outside of work, Mosley said she loves to read. She currently has over 200 physical books along with e-books. She also walks and does a lot of adventuring with her fiance and their two dogs. Mosley is also a museum buff, trying to go to any and all that she can, and likes a good aquarium trip.
Welcome Kylea Mosley to our team.
