By Andrew Shaw,
Editor, the Buffalo Center Tribune
The Buffalo Center Tribune is pleased to welcome Kelsey Bosma as our new office administrator.
Kelsey got started last month at the Tribune, where she is now assisting customers and helping to prepare Buffalo Center’s weekly news publication. She joins Tribune editor Andrew Shaw and marketing representative Leslie Ruby.
A native of Lake Mills, Kelsey moved to Buffalo Center 12 years ago. For the past three to four years, she has worked at McGrady Painting, which was started by her late father, Chuck McGrady. She has also been a stay-at-home mom, and with her kids getting older, she says she was looking for something to do. She holds a degree in communications from Waldorf University, and she says she wanted to find a way to get involved in the community while putting her skills to use.
She is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where she served as a corpsman stationed in Pensacola, FL, and she is a member of American Legion Post 21. She is involved at her church, Bethlehem Lutheran, as Sunday School Superintendent, and she also volunteers with the 1G Network.
Kelsey has also had the distinction this past year of serving as Ms. Iowa for Pure International. Pure International is a volunteer service-based organization that holds national and international pageants, and Bosma is the first contestant to win the Ms. Iowa title. Her term as Ms. Iowa ends this month, but Bosma says she’ll receive a new title and will continue to be involved with Pure International.
Kelsey and her husband, Jesse, recently celebrated their 10th anniversary. They live on a farm outside Buffalo Center with their children, Kaiden, Gabby, and Wyatt, who all attend school at North Iowa. Kaiden is a junior, Gabby is a seventh grader, and Wyatt is in the fourth grade. The Bosma farm is a busy place, as they raise cows, goats, and chickens.
Kelsey says she’s enjoying her work at the Tribune and the opportunity to get a little creative at times. She says she also likes seeing the people who come into the office, which is located at 124 N. Main St.
