Meet the new Eagle Grove Elementary principal

Jared Carder is ready to start his “leadership journey” in Eagle Grove as he starts his first year as a principal.

Carder will be filling that role at Eagle Grove Elementary.

“Before I interviewed in May, my family and I took a trip to Eagle Grove to check out the town. While we were driving around town, my wife and I both felt like the size of the town, paired with the amenities it offered reminded us of where we grew up (in Williamsburg),” he noted. “During the interview process, staff members described Eagle Grove as a community with outstanding people that do what they can to help students. I knew through those two experiences that being the principal of Eagle Grove Elementary was the right fit for me.”

Carder comes to Eagle Grove with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Elementary Education from Coe College, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and a Master’s of Arts in Educational Leadership from Viterbo University, La Crosse, Wisconsin. He has taught in the Clear Creek Amana Community School District for the last 10 years.

“I am looking forward to working with students, staff, and community members to embrace the history of our district while also growing into the future,” he said about his new position in Eagle Grove. “My goals for our students are to embrace our diversity, develop leadership skills, practice empathy, and be resilient through the challenges that await us this year.”

One of the obvious challenges, of course, being the pandemic.

“COVID-19 adds a new layer to the role of educators. We have teachers and families that are stressed about the start of school and the unknowns that loom around every corner. While I can guarantee that I will not have all the answers in regards to COVID-19 and its effects on our return to learn, I will continue to work closely with everyone in order to keep our students, staff, and community as safe as possible,” Carder reassured.

Carder is married to the new Eagle Grove high school and middle school nurse (see Beth Carder info below). They have two sons and a big curly-haired dog named Reggie. Since they have moved to town, about two months ago, he says it’s been a great experience.

“I have already met many wonderful people and I look forward to meeting everyone else in the future,” he said.

In his free time, Carder enjoys jogging, riding bicycles with his family, exploring parks, fishing, golfing, and building things in his garage.

While Carder enjoyed being a teacher, he is excited about his new role in Eagle Grove.
