For senior Lea Friedl, this was the way she wanted to go out in her last run at a Dick Bell Invitational. While she can now enjoy that feeling for a moment, she has other goals ahead of her and is lucky to be able to run after those on the same course.
After posting a 22:13.84 a year ago on this course, she finished in 22:29.12 in the class B race which was still more than enough (by 27 seconds) to win. Teammates Alejandra Lopez and Madi Axtell stayed together to finish 12th and 13th, respectively. Lopez came home in 25:18.06, while Axtell had a 25:18.57 clocking at the finish.
West Fork took the Class B team title, followed by Saint Ansgar and South Hardin. Humboldt won class A, followed by Emmetsburg and Algona. Abby Christians of Garner-Hayfield/Ventura crossed in 20:56.58 to win that race.
They traveled to a meet Thursday at the Jewell golf course hosted by South Hamilton. Roland-Story took the team title with 36 points, followed by Panorama with 44 and Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center with 87 points. Ella Waddle of Panorama came home in 20:27.40 for first place. Friedl finished in 21:50.19 for 10th, Lopez in 24:34.61 for 35th and Axtell in 25:18.49 for 46th place at the finish line.
The RBMS runners were represented by: Savannah Gilbert in 15:26.76 for ninth; Peyton Terwilliger in 17:12.74 for 25th; Monique Garcia in 19:54.06 for 39th and Rene Withers in 23:38.70 for 45th.
The Top of Iowa-West Division meet is this Thursday at the EGCC course beginning at 5 p.m.
