EGHS Class of 1967 keeps giving back to community

The Eagle Grove High School Class of 1967 has done a lot of good for the community of Eagle Grove and its people. It began in June of 2018 after a meeting was held to discuss what they could do with money raised from their 50th Class Reunion in July of 2017. According to Cheryl Jacobsen, three ideas were suggested – give to the Eagle Grove Memorial Library, the Eagle Grove Area School District, and Dollars for Scholars.

In April of 2019, the first check was presented to the Eagle Grove Memorial Library for $1,300 from the class’s 2017 fundraising campaign. The money was used to purchase a durable table/seating area as well as a bench that are both placed outside the library for the public’s use.

In May of 2019, the Class began another formal fundraising campaign, this time for the school district. They were presented with checks for $1,000 in April of 2019 and an additional $,3000 in August of the same year. To date, the Class of ‘67 has given $6,360 to school projects (one of which was the purchase of a Buddy Bench at the elementary school).

An additional $9,468 have been given to the Dollars for Scholars program which helps award worthy EGHS seniors who have volunteered their time in the community over the years free money for college. Classmates who have contributed to this scholarship drive have been asked if they would support establishing a $5,000 non endowed scholarship for the 20/21 school year with a goal to convert the scholarship to an endowed scholarship ($10,000) by 2022.

The Class of 1967 also has a set of broader goals which includes getting other classes engaged in giving back to the community of Eagle Grove; growing the value of the pool of money available for post high school education; and bringing classmates back together to get reacquainted.
