Winter sports at all three schools to be greatly impacted
As a result of new guidelines, issued by Governor Reynolds and the Wright County Board of Health in response to the rapid rise in the number of COVID-19 cases, sports practices and competitions at all three of the school districts will be impacted with many changes in how they will be held.
All student-athletes will have masks on for practices, but for scrimmages and games they can remove them while on the court. Once they go to their team bench, they must have the mask back on.
The biggest change will be that attendance to games and meets will be restricted. Only parents of the student-athletes, and at a limit of two per athlete, will be allowed to attend. Parents may include stepparents and guardians, as well as parents of cheerleaders. Exception will be made for very young children in need of parental supervision. The student-athletes are to provide names of parents that plan to attend to the admissions table outside of the gym. Only those parents on the list will be permitted into the gym.
There will be no student section at athletic contests, and this includes students of both schools involved. Cheerleaders, and on occasion drill team members, will be permitted in. Pep bands will not be in attendance or allowed to perform. Photographers for newspapers that cover the two teams will be allowed in. Social distancing must also be maintained, and in all cases everyone in attendance must be masked up.
Concession stands will not be opened, as consumption of food and drink will not be permitted. Vending machines will be turned off, and no outside food or drink will be permitted in.
These restrictions will remain in place likely throughout the entire season and until further notice. This is being implemented by the Board of Health with the intent of keeping everyone safe and healthy.
