Don’t forget to SHARE CHRISTMAS

2020 has been a tough year for everyone. COVID-19 has caused many of our friends and neighbors to come upon hard times. Loss of jobs, loss of wages, mounting bills…they all add to the worry already caused by the uncertainty of the pandemic. That is why the volunteers of Share Christmas are hoping now more than ever before you will consider sharing Christmas with those around you who need help.

Marcella Johnson, long-time volunteer of the Share Christmas program, said that the need is great and within the first couple of weeks they already had 75 families register for assistance from this program and they are anticipating the total need to be around 125 families this year. You’re help is desperately needed to help them reach their $10,000 goal to help put holiday meals on these families’ tables. Giving is easier than ever because they are only asking for monetary donations so that gift certificates may be purchased to Fareway in Eagle Grove. Each family will receive a gift card in dollar amounts based on the number of family members they have. Families will be allowed to use these to purchase whatever food they may wish to enjoy for the holiday season. They have had someone already generously offer to purchase all the toys for kids, so they are hoping others will step up and give cash to purchase more gift cards.

It’s not too late to still make your cash contribution be they big or small. Every dollar helps. Donations may be dropped off between the hours of 1 and 3 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays. All donations should be taken or mailed to the Food Pantry at 510 S. Jackson Ave as soon as possible. Distribution of the gift cards will take place from 8:30 – 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12 at the Service Center.

Share Christmas has been helping Eagle Grove families for more than 50 years, starting with food box collections and handouts and progressing to gift card handouts a couple of years ago to allow them to purchase foods they will eat rather than are just given.

Food donations are always still also greatly appreciated as these items will be used to help families who come to the Food Pantry in Eagle Grove to help supplement their groceries throughout the year.
