Snow and ice is just part of living in Iowa during the winter months. Mother Nature can strike at any time, and when she does, it’s our Eagle Grove Street Department that comes to the rescue, clearing roads long before the sun rises so people can go about their days as soon as possible. But they can’t do it without your help. It’s important to remember that the City has a parking ban code when snow is in the forecast. Chief of Police Ray Beltran is asking that you abide by these rules or you may receive a ticket.
“It is very important for the citizens of Eagle Grove and Goldfield to be prepared for snow. Any time there is more than an inch of snow, the Snow Ban goes into effect. Vehicles need to be removed from the streets. This is in an effort to help the city workers clear the streets,” said Beltran.
According to the Code of Iowa, Sec. 321.236 [1]) 3 – Snow Removal – It states in part that no person shall park, abandone, or leave unattended any vehicle parked on a city street when more than an inch of snow is predicted between the hours of midnight and 7 a.m.
“We have had numerous violations this year,” said Beltran.
When this happens, it not only slows down the progress of the cleanup, but it also leaves vehicle owners with an even bigger pile of snow to dig out of as crews will clean up and possibly block in cars that are left parked in the street. They are most likely to also receive a fine.
“There has been discussion to raise the fine from $25 to $100. If we don’t have cooperation with removing vehicles from the streets after a snowfall, my fear is the fines will go up,” explained Beltran.
He added that residents who do not have off-street parking, they will temporarily allow vehicles to be temporarily parked in the owner/renters yard, just until plows have been by and completely cleared the streets.
“The City of Eagle Grove has a 28E Agreement with the Wright County Treasurer’s Office, so if a citizen does not pay their fines after the second notice, the ticket is turned over to the Treasurer’s Office, who will add fines to your vehicle registration. When you go to renew your registration, you will need to pay those fines,” concluded Beltran.
When there’s snow in the forecast, make sure your vehicles are off the streets in Eagle Grove.
