Lady Eagle final stats show Friedl, Sampson sisters on top

The 20-21 Lady Eagle basketball team finished with a 5-18 overall record, and they were 4-12 in the Top of Iowa West which placed them seventh. Bishop Garrigan won the division at 16-0, followed by West Hancock at 12-4 and Forest City at 11-5. Lea Friedl was an Honorable Mention All-Conference pick.

 

The team scored 801 total points, making 291 of 920 shots from the field for 31.6 percent. They made 141 of 261 free throws for 54 percent and 78 of 276 three-pointers for 28.3 percent. Lea Friedl scored 196 points on 71 of 76 from the field for an average of 8.5 ppg. Hannah Sampson scored 172 points on 63 of 204 shots for an average of 7.5 ppg. Ariane Lyman scored 156 points on 52 of 63 shots for an average of 7.4 ppg. Kaitlin Sampson scored 103 points on 37 of 152 shots for an average of 4.5 ppg. Braxton Steil scored 73 points on 25 of 66 shots for an average of 3.2 ppg.

 

Megan Sampson scored 54 points on 20 of 78 shots for an average of 3.8 ppg. Nadia Kaiser scored 19 points on 9 of 21 shots for an average of 1.0 ppg. Olivia Andersen scored 10 points on 5 of 34 shots for an average of 0.4 ppg. Brooklyn Osborne scored eight points, Reece Ettinger six points and Emma Thul four points to complete the scoring column.

 

Ranked by field goal percentage, regardless of minutes played or points scored, the order would be: Ettinger 50 percent; Kaiser 42.9 percent; Friedl 40.3 percent; Steil 37.9 pecent; Thul 33.3 percent; Lyman 31.9 percent; H. Sampson 30.9 percent; Osborne 30.8 percent; M. Sampson 25.6 percent; K. Sampson 24.3 percent and Andersen 14.7 percent. 

 

In three-point shooting, H. Sampson made 37 of 124 with Friedl next at 18 of 47. M. Sampson made 12 of 52, K. Sampson six of 35, Steil three of seven and both Kaiser and Lyman one each. Ranked by percentage, regardless of minutes played or points scored, the order would be: Steil 42.9 percent; Friedl 38.3 percent; H. Sampson 29.8 percent; Kaiser 25.0 percent; M. Sampson 23.1 percent; K. Sampson 17.1 percent and Lyman 14.3 percent. 

From the free throw line, Lyman made 51 of 87 and Friedl 36 of 55. K. Sampson went 23 of 42, Steil 20 of 44, H. Sampson nine of 21 and M. Sampson two of five. Ranked by percentage, regardless of minutes played or points scored, the order would be: Friedl 65.5 percent; Lyman 58.6 percent; K. Sampson 54.8 percent; Steil 45.5 percent; H. Sampson 42.9 percent and M. Sampson 40 percent.

 

The team had 559 total rebounds, with 357 defensively and 202 on the offensive end of the court. Ranked by total rebounds, the order would be: Friedl 80; K. Sampson 80; Lyman 76, Andersen 73; Steil 60; H. Sampson 54; M. Sampson 41; Kaiser 17 and Osborne eight. Ranked by defensive rebounds, the order would be: Lyman 56; K. Sampson 48; Friedl 47; Andersen 45; H. Sampson 44; Steil 35; M. Sampson 30; Kaiser 12; Thul seven and Osborne five. Ranked by offensive rebounds, the order would be: Friedl 33; K. Sampson 32; Andersen 28; Steil 25; Lyman 20; M. Sampson 11; H. Sampson 10; Kaiser five; Osborne three; Thul two and Ettinger two. 

The top ten in assists were Friedl 26, H. Sampson 15, M. Sampson 14, K. Sampson 12, Lyman 10, Andersen nine, Steil nine, Kaiser six, Osborne one and Thul one.

 

The top ten in steals were H. Sampson 31, Friedl 29, Andersen 29, Lyman 16, K. Sampson 15, M. Sampson 14, Steil 12, Kaiser four, Osborne one and Thul one. 

 

The top five in blocked shots were Andersen 12, Lyman four and K. Sampson, H. Sampson and Friedl at two each.

 

In Top of Iowa stat rankings (both divisions), Friedl is 27th in scoring at 196 points. She is also 14th in free throw percentage (65.5) and 31st in field goal percentage (40.3). Andersen tied for 23rd in blocked shots (12), Lyman finished 44th in defensive rebounds (56) and Kaitlin Sampson is 47th in total rebounds (80).
