Downtown EG revitalization project has begun

It’s been more than a year in the making and Eagle Grove community members have been anxiously anticipating the new look our downtown will have after a revitalization project is complete.

Work on the three-phase project began on Monday, March 29 on the 300 block of Broadway.  Although the plan had been in the works for many months, the actual start of the project began quite quickly and unexpectedly for business owners and managers in that part of town.  None-the-less, a slight inconvenience will be well worth it when the project is complete.

Workers showed up before 8 a.m. and set out road closed and detour signs.  Within only a couple of hours, they had the light poles removed, began tearing down awnings over businesses, and removed the trees in preparation for the changes.  All businesses on the 300 block will remain open during this phase of the demolition and construction.  Pedestrians are asked to please inside the barriers that have been set up, walking on the pavement closest to the buildings.  Sidewalks closest to the businesses will be replaced on days when the businesses are closed as to not interrupt traffic flow during hours of operation.

The Downtown Revitalization Project will take place on Broadway Street from Iowa Ave to Park Ave.  Improvements will consist of new sidewalks, intersection bump outs, parking area permeable pavers, storm and utility improvements, the removal of the flashing stop light located on Broadway and Commercial which will be replaced with an LED stop sign, landscaping, and other amenities.  Eagle Grove City Administrator Bryce Davis is anticipating this first phase of the 300 block to take about six weeks to complete.

Phase two of the downtown revitalization will be from Commercial Ave to Lucas Ave and will begin when phase one is complete.  Phase three will follow from Lucas Ave to Park Ave.  The entire project is slated to be completed by October of this year.

Wicks Construction of Decorah, Iowa, has been awarded the construction contract for the Eagle Grove Downtown Revitalization project in cooperation with ISG.  They, along with the City of Eagle Grove, would like to thank the community for their patience and cooperation throughout the duration of this project.  We all look forward to seeing the improvements and overall revitalization this project brings to the downtown corridor.

The Eagle will continue to keep you informed of progress on this project as it progresses and information is available.
