EG business owner helps her young kids start their own business

What did you do with your stimulus check?  Tiara Paul, owner of Red Head Tribe Logos, used some of the  money they got to help her two children, Tinsley (5) and Talon (2), start their very own entrepreneurial business.

It all began last year, after Paul opened her boutique storefront in Eagle Grove. Tinsley could frequently be heard asking her mom, “When can I be the boss?” and saying “I want to be my own boss.”

Paul responded, “Someday you will be.”

When the third round of COVID stimulus money came through last month, Paul thought, why not now?  Why not let Tinsley and her little brother learn all about being the boss of their own business?  After all, Paul said that instead of playing house like most kids do, her two kids can regularly be found playing “store.”

The wheels were in motion, and  Paul began thinking, “What can we do that no one else has done?”

The first step was to figure out what kind of business they would run.  Then the answer came to them – sensory playdough.  Tinsley and Talon love playing with playdough.  All kids like playdough, right?!  Even many adults can’t resist the squishy concoction you can let your imagination run wild with.  But what will be different about Tins & Tal Doh, as they are calling it, is the fact that it will appeal to your senses through aromatherapy.  Theirs will feature Grade A essential oils (diluted so it is safe to play with) in a variety of scents including citrus, eucalyptus, and lavender to name a few.  Some of the lavender dohs will also have dried pieces of lavender in them to add a sense of texture. Young and old alike will love this new twist on a product that will not only entertain for hours, but also bring a calming and satisfying sensation at the same time.

As for where to sell it?  Well that was easy.  You’ll find their special display during the Eagle Grove Women’s Day Out shopping event that will take place in participating downtown businesses on Saturday, April 24.  Tins & Tal Doh will have a fancy little “lemonade-like” stand set up in the front of Red Head Tribe Logos (RHTL) store.  But don’t worry, if you can’t make it that Saturday, their sensory doh will be available on a regular basis at their mom’s shop.  If you can’t wait until then, or you would like some for your child’s Easter basket, you’re in luck.  The product will actually be ready for sale this weekend at RHTL as well.  Or, if you have a little one that you plan on taking out to the annual Eagle Grove Easter Egg Hunt, they might be the lucky recipient of one of two TIns & Tal Doh prize baskets.  One more option, if you would rather shop from the comfort of your home, or you live out of town, Paul is hoping to add the product to the RHTL online store as well.

Running their own business won’t just be fun and games for Tinsley and Talon, Paul plans on using the opportunity to also teach her young children about the value of a dollar.  Each of them will have a savings account set up.  Profits made front their sensory doh will be put into this account to save up for a rainy day…or a car, college, or other major purchase that they may one day want to make.  Knowing they earned the money themself will give them a sense of accomplishment and pride in knowing that when they work hard they can accomplish anything…and they’ll know they can make a living doing something they can enjoy if they only put their minds to it.

“I have the opportunity to give them a leg up to be self-sufficient…so I figured why not do it,” said Paul.

But this business isn’t just about earning money for the kids.  Paul is making sure they also learn about the importance of giving back.  She said the three of them also plan on donating some of their sensory doh to the people who could perhaps benefit the most from it – the Eagle Grove schools, the special needs students, and even Rotary Senior Living.

Tins & Tal Doh is only getting started.  Paul says they have many great plans in the making and ideas are always flowing.  Be sure to keep checking in with them, you just might find they have a basket of the month club you want to take advantage of, and you never know when there will be another addition to their line you just have to have.

They say children learn what they live…if they’re creating and selling their own products now, who knows what the future holds for them – and the rest of the consumers in the world.
