The Eagle Grove girls track & field team hosted their annual Lady Eagle Relays last Thursday. Bishop Garrigan took the title with 119 points, followed by Algona with 104, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows with 89, Webster City with 75, West Hancock with 49, Garner-Hayfield/Ventura with 39 and the Eagles with 35 points.
Highlights included a second place in 5:08.67 for the distance medley relay. Lea Friedl continues her strong start with that same finish spot in 13.85 in the 100.
Prior to that, they opened the outdoor season at a meet in Gowrie hosted by Southeast Valley. The home team took class A with 152 points, followed by Carroll at 136, Webster City at 103, Pocahontas Area at 87, Kuemper Catholic at 72 and the Eagles at 23.
Friedl again took second and was just a second off her time from the home relays. Ayden Feske shined in the same event with a 14.04 for fourth to score extra points. Lea was fourth in the 200, while both the 4×2 and 4×4 relays came home fifth.
“I was pleased with how these first two meets went,” stated head coach Andy Ettinger. “Our freshmen are stepping up and helping our upperclassmen. The first meet we had a beautiful night weather-wise. Our home meet was a different story, but that didn’t stop these ladies from going out and competing. We did some good things, and now the only way to go is up.”
