Dave Morgan retires from EG School District after 32 years

Dave Morgan admits he didn’t always want to be a teacher.  He thought he wanted to be a farmer, but once he found his way into education, and coaching, he knew he was where he was meant to be.

Morgan’s first teaching position was at Fort Dodge Senior High School during the 1985 – 1985 school year.  In 1988, he came to Eagle Grove…and stayed.

While Morgan’s official teaching roles over the years have included Special education and Industrial Technology, he gave a lot more to his students.  As the head wrestling coach for many years he taught his team about work ethic and dedication.  Intentional or not, his love of the rock band “KISS” also showed his students that teachers weren’t always so serious, and they liked to have some fun once in a while too.

“The most rewarding part of his career has beens eeing the students go out into the real world and be successful because of my help as a coach and teacher,” said Morgan.

Over the years, the one concept he has tried to instill in his students is to treat people with respect.

“I encourage students to work hard at everything they do and treat their friends and colleagues the way they would like to be treated,” he said.

Morgan said he decided to retire this year because he felt it was time to move on and explore other opportunities.

“I will be following my grandkids through their school activities and enjoying my hobbies,” he said.
