When construction on The Grove Hotel started in Eagle Grove, the goal was to eventually add an Event Center to it. Now, a year after it’s been open, the committee is ready to start moving forward on that dream – and they’re asking for more volunteers to join their committee.
“The land next to the hotel has been purchased and will be donated to the Event Center when it is time,” said committee member Mickey Cooper.
Current committee members include: Blanche Bonstedder, Pat Manues, Peg Hill, Ann Wilde, Jan Derscheid, Bryce Davis. Rachel Wagner, and Mickey Cooper. In preparation for the build, some of them have already been traveling to other towns to look at other event centers, and they’ve come back with suggestions:
“One of the main suggestions is that they would plan on a venue that would hold 400 people,” noted Cooper.
Other ideas have included having a “caterer’s kitchen,” two bars – one fixed and one portable and run by the Event Center, an outdoor space, and of cours a stage and dance floor. It was also suggested that there be a space for smaller parties that could hold up to 50 people without it being so overwhelming big. The committee also wants to be sure there are plenty of bathrooms in the facility.
The Eagle Grove Event Center will also feature other common amenities including Internet, video equipment, tables and chairs that are easily stored, and have plenty of storage space for all of this equipment.
Of course, this will take funding to build, just as the hotel did, so construction will not begin until the money is available.
“This will have non-profit status and will be built with donations. There will be a donor wall or some way to acknowledge those who donated to the project,” said Cooper.
When the Eagle Grove Event Center is up and running, The Grove Hotel will be responsible for the clean-up and laundry of the facility, as well as the bookings.
The Event Center committee is looking for, and would greatly welcome the help of any additional volunteers who might be interested in joining them in their efforts to get the facility built.
“You can talk to any of the (above listed) members or call Eagle Grove Pharmacy, Inc and ask for me,” said Cooper.
The meetings are usually held every other Thursday at the Eagle Grove Pharmacy conference room. The next meeting is scheduled for July 1 at 8 am.
