Golf Course celebrates mileston

It’s been roughly a century since the Eagle Grove Golf Course first opened their doors.  Although there are a couple of different years that it has been said to have opened, the staff decided to celebrate the big event a few weeks ago.  They were excited to have several golf enthusiasts, business people, and community members join them.

The Eagle Grove Golf Course, once marketed as a country club for people to buy a membership to, features a 9-hole golf course that boasts 2,959 yards of playing grounds.  Par for this beautiful course, located along the river’s edge at 1127 270th St., is 35, making it fun for both novice and experts.

One document states that the Eagle Grove Golf Course opened in 1928.  The Eagle Grove Centennial book, published in 1981, however, states that it came into existence in 1923.  In the beginning, it featured sand greens.  In 1950, club President Fritz Wooster and the committee converted the greens to grass.

Tennis courts were also available to play at at the Eagle Grove golf course in the 1920s, as was a croquet court.  Dancing inside the clubhouse was very popular as well.

Although croquet and tennis are gone from the facility, golf and a clubhouse still remain and are open to the public.  It’s also a very popular place in the winter for people who enjoy sledding.  Just bring your own tubes and be ready to get some exercise walking back up the hills.  Tyler Hathaway servers as the general manager and Paul Nesheim as the superintendent.
