Parents win again in annual slow-pitch game

According to coach Jim McLaughlin, the team has won only once in the years of the slow-pitch game that is held on awards night. This year’s classic saw the parents prevail again in a 9-6 final score. It was a wild and tight battle through two innings with a 2-2 score. There was hard hitting, spectacular infield plays and great moments and that was just during warmups (just kidding!).

In the third a homer by Blake Sadler broke the tie. It went well over the fence in left center, and in fact they’re still looking for the ball! Also in that inning, Lea Friedl doubled as the team threatened to take the lead again. Olivia Conaway would bring her home to make it 4-3, with Sabrina Flumerfelt crossing the plate for a 5-3 lead.

The parents came rallying back, as Trudee Dobbs tied it at 6-6 in the fourth and Jeff Osborn’s run put them in front. It soon became 9-6 as courtesy runner Jace Conaway scored. Flumerfelt would make a nice catch of a line drive in the final inning to rob the parents of an extra base as the team desperately tried to stay in it. A hard hit by Jarika Eisentrager was caught by Friedl, and the game was soon over as the parents celebrated yet again!

“It was great,” said Sadler about his homerun. “I just thought it would go out there a ways.”

“It was a fantastic game,” said Chelsea Woodbeck. “It’s always fun to play the team.”

“It was awesome to play with a great team, and even better that we won!” said Dobbs.

So the team now puts the bats, balls and gloves away for another year. However, with nearly everyone back on the team next year you can bet they’ll remember this night and will seek their revenge as the annual fun event sees the next installment.
