It’s one of the most exciting times of the school year…and it is quickly approaching. Eagle Grove Homecoming Week 2021 has been scheduled early this year. It will be Sept. 7 – Sept. 10, which means Student Council members had to get busy right away in planning this year’s festivities.
Of course, one of the first questions high school students always want to know is, “What are the dress up days?” They’ve got some new and exciting ones this year…but there will be one day less than usual since there is no school on Monday, Sept. 6, due to the Labor Day holiday. But when the kids return to school on Tuesday, they will no doubt be ready to answer the call of fame for eight hours coming to school dressed as their favorite movie character. Wednesday will be Country Club vs. Country Western. Which side will win? There’s sure to be some good costumes on Thursday as it’s Hawaiian/beach day. And of course, Friday will bring the traditional School Spirit Day.
On the community side of things, the Student Council members are asking business owners/managers to get in on the fun as well. They are hoping you will decorate your windows to the theme of “Lights, Camera, Action!” The winners will receive five free passes to the Homecoming football game against West Central Valley Wildcats on Friday, Sept. 10, along with $25 in Eagle Bucks to the concession stand. To be eligible, your window must be completed by Sept. 5. Judging will take place sometime during Homecoming Week, and the winner will be announced on Friday, Sept. 10. Homeowners, it would be fun for you do decorate your windows, yards, cars as well…but there won’t be any prizes other than being a top-notch Eagle Grove fan!
The traditional Powderpuff girls football game is on for Wednesday, Sept. 8 starting at 6:30 p.m., but you might want to come a little early and grab a free-will offering meal before the fun begins, sponsored by the Sports Boosters who make it possible to purchase new uniforms, equipment, etc. for our athletes. The boys will head inside to the courts of the elementary gym for their annual Powderbuff volleyball game at 7:30 p.m. The public is invited to come out and enjoy all of the Wednesday evening festivities.
Friday morning will be a day of fun for the high school students. They will be able to participate in a variety of activities ranging from cookie making to inflatables, to Minute-To-Win-It style games. A community Pep Rally and the crowning of the 2021 Homecoming King and Queen will begin promptly at 1 p.m. on the football field. In case of rain, Coronation will be held in the RBMS auditorium. The parade is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. Be sure to watch next week’s Eagle for the parade route.
Homecoming Week 2021 will come to it’s finale with the football game on Friday night and the dance from 8 – 11 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11.
