A red hot entrance

At exactly 8:15 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 17, Emily Clausen and her second grade class headed outside to welcome their classmate, Colt Craven to school.  It’s not every day your entire classroom greets you upon arriving at school, but then again, it’s not every day a student arrives at school riding a fire truck.

Colt Craven has loved fire trucks for a very long time, so when his classmates found out he would be riding one to school last week, there was no way they were going to miss that red hot entrance…even if it was pouring rain.  Literally, just as the class headed outside to see the fire truck coming down the school lane, the skies opened up with a torrential downpour of rain.  The kids just screamed and laughed, seemingly not minding at all that they were getting soaked, because after all, what is a fire truck all about?  That’s right, WATER!

When the Badger Fire Truck came to a stop in front of the elementary building, a fireman hopped out and opened the back door, lifting out none other than Colt with a smile the size of Texas on his face.  The kids lined up to high-five Colt and ask him all kinds of questions.  They were also excited to receive a super cool plastic fireman’s hat just like Colt had been given.

Colt was able to ride the fire truck to school because he won a raffle sponsored by the Badger Fire Department.  The best part is, that ride meant as much to Colt as it did to the Badger Fire Department.  It’s an amazing testament to how emergency service personnel continually go above and beyond the call of duty.
