Runners from around the area came to Eagle Grove on Tuesday, Oct. 5 to take on the challenging hills of the Eagle Grove Golf Course at the Dick Bell Invite. Runner ages ranged from middle school through high school and included both boys and girls.
In the high school varsity boys division, our very own Eagle Grove Eagles took the top spot, finishing in 1st Place. Helping to take that title were Drake Weland who finished 2nd overall and Noah Thul who finished in 5th Place.
“This meet was a meet that I was hoping that we could make a good showing at considering it was our home meet and we were running with teams that were similar to ours. In fact I had shared with the guys that Bishop Garrigan who had beaten us in two earlier meets was the favorite, but if we packed up well anything could happen. Our pack running was the best it had been all year and I think the home crowd definitely helped our guys out on the course,” said boys Head Coach Be Demuth. “Drake ran well all night long, and Noah ran right along with him keeping contact as we preach to the team and those two placing as well as they did helped us out tremendously. Noah beat a few guys who have beaten him in the past so it was awesome to watch him compete. I was also pleased with our freshmen who have been so strong for us this year and are really developing into some strong runners who will only get better as their futures progress. Also a huge thanks to all the fans and volunteers for cheering and helping out with the meet. It was a lot of fun to run for the guys and their support was tremendous.”

Although the Eagle Grove girls cross country team is small this year, they are mighty. Junior Maddie Axtell ran a great race, conquering the hills in a time of 23:46.96. That was good enough to get her in the top 10 – finishing in 6th Place.
