Community Thanksgiving Feast happening again in-person in Eagle Grove

The Eagle Grove Community Thanksgiving Dinner has become a highly anticipated event in Eagle Grove for many since   Bert Aukland first came up with the idea that was intended to bring people together for the holidays who might otherwise be home alone, not have enough food to eat, or just want to see other community members.  Last year, however, it was taken over by the Eagle Grove Chamber of Commerce and a list of volunteers.  Not only was it a huge undertaking, but they did it, and made it successful in the face of a pandemic.

Eagle Grove Chamber Director Sara Middleton is excited to announce that the feast will return again this year…and you can even do it in person if you wish.  Take-out and deliveries will also still be available.

This free event will take place on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 25, 2021.

“This is our second year organizing the Eagle Grove Free Community Thanksgiving, and it’s a great fit with our mission as an organization,” said Middleton.  “It connects people to each other, showcases the community-mindedness of our membership, and provides a fun, fulfilling volunteer opportunity for people of all ages and walks of life. We’re super excited to hold this event at Sacred Heart Catholic Church this year, and to bring back dining in as an option for our guests that day.”

Food will be available from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.  Reservations are required by calling the Eagle Grove Pharmacy at 515-448-3814.   Leave your name and phone number if there is no answer.

In order to make this ever-growing event a success, the Chamber is welcoming any help and/or donations.  Specifically, they are looking for salads, pies, bars to be prepared and dropped off at Sacred Heart (204 S. Jackson) in Eagle Grove before 11 a.m. that day.  They are also in need of set up, prep, servers, delivery drivers, help with pick-up orders, and clean up duty.  If you would like to  help in any of these ways, please call Missie at 515-851-1228 or Derek at 515-293-0263.

Monetary donations are also appreciated, which can be dropped off at the Chamber office which is located at 212 W. Broadway.

Again, this Community Thanksgiving Feast is free of charge, but donations are always appreciated (but never required).  Funds received from this meal will go back into the community.

If you would like to volunteer to help prepare the meal, package carry out orders, or make deliveries, your help would be greatly appreciated.  Please call the Chamber to add your name to the list of volunteers.

“We hope to see lots of people, whether they are enjoying the meal or helping us to serve,” concluded Middleton.
