PANG, a new area support group for Arthritis Sufferers, is planning its first meeting on Monday, Nov. 29 in the Community Room at Belmond's Talbot Public Library, at 10:00 a.m.
Founded by area resident Gwen Harvey, PANG gets its name from the acronym for Positive Arthritis News Group. In a statement given to the Belmond Independent Harvey said the group will allow arthritis sufferers "to feel less alone with our diagnosis, to share how the disease is affecting us, to share ways we have learned to adapt and cope, and to learn from the experiences of others."
Speaking to the Eagle, Harvey said she hopes to expand the group to neighboring communities, starting with Clarion. But anyone suffering with arthritis, or caring for someone who is, is welcome to attend the Belmond meetings. She also hopes to have experts in Arthritis attend and speak at future meetings.
