Another day, another loss to the CGD Cowboys.
For the past decade, the Eagles have only managed to beat the CGD Cowboys once, back in January of 2014, after a very close matchup that resulted in a 47-44 victory. Besides that win, the Eagles have suffered loss after loss against the Cowboys. However, not everything about the results of this game are negative. Just like the Eagles girls basketball team, the team is young, still gaining more experience. With that said, a loss against the CGD Cowboys, a team with more experience, might be understandable…but that only better prepares the Eagles for the next time they faceoff.
The Eagles saw the return of two letterwinners from last year, SO Drake Canavan and JR Tate Richardson, and the debut for Freshman, and one of the starting five, Jaxon Morris. Canavan led the charts for the Eagles, delivering 11 points and 10 rebounds, nearly half of the rebounds for the entire team, along with two steals. Richardson also joined the charts with second most rebounds as he contributed five, with two assists and two points scored. Before half-time the Eagles were down 31-8, only scoring 4 points in both the first and second quarter. When the third quarter arrived, the Eagles changed, rather improving as they managed to score twelve points, and then eight in the fourth while the Cowboys only scored four.
Losing three sounds better than losing ten…right? Well, next year that’s how many seniors will be lost for the CGD Cowboys compared to the EG Eagles. Right now, the wound is open and the cut hurts for the Eagles. With the time they have, they can learn together, gain more experience with a keen understanding and chemistry with each other. By then, the wound is healed, and the cut doesn’t hurt anymore. To truly appreciate winning, the hardships of losing must be experienced.
The Eagles are set to travel to Forest City, where they will take on their first conference match for the 2021/2022 season on Friday, December 3, at 7:30 PM.
