To truly appreciate winning, the hardships of losing must be experienced.
The roster for the Eagle Grove Eagles were much younger than the lineup for the CGD Cowgirls. For a new, young team, the girls fought hard against their CGD rivals. Like all new beginnings, there’s always learning curves. Perhaps next time around the Eagles will be better prepared to combat the pressures from the Cowgirls. The compelling, classic, collision saw the eager Eagles struggle to penetrate through the capitalizing Cowgirls’ defense as they only managed to put up no more than 11 points per quarter, scoring 3 in the first, 7 in the second, 11 in the third, and 6 in the fourth. Though the Eagles struggled to maneuver their way through the Cowgirls defense and score layups, the girls attempted several three pointers. Not every shot went, but as the game continued, the girls took more chances with more rewards. However, with a handful of three pointer misses, that’s when the Cowgirls capitalized and scored, which is what hurt the Eagles most throughout the match.
Almost similar to the boys of Eagle Grove, the girls squad consisted of no seniors in Monday’s matchup, opposed to the Cowgirls with five seniors in their roster. Though the game resulted in a loss for the Eagles, a glimpse of hope can be restored for Eagle Grove as seven of their players scored during the game. 9 points were scored by SO Nadia Kaiser, who led the charts for the Eagles with most points and tied for most rebounds, 9, with JR Braxton Steil. Steil applied 4 points for the Eagles. SO Maddison Kaiser contributed 6 points for the Eagles, along with an assist, two steals, and a block. The numbers aren’t astronomical of course, and they might even be a little on the low side. However, like the Eagle boys team, this is a learning season to receive experience for future games and seasons.
As much of a young team the Eagles are, their loss to the CGD Cowgirls can be viewed much more positively than just a loss. With this, the girls can absorb experience for their future reunions with their classic rivals. The Eagles will go to Forest City on Tuesday, November 30, where they hope to win their first conference game for the Top of Iowa West at 6:15 PM.
