The Wildcats had no time for the Eagles on Tuesday night, as the wrestlers entered the gymnasium ready to tackle the new season. Dominating nearly every matchup, the Wildcats managed to surpass the Eagles, only losing a few fights. Never once giving up, the Eagles continued to give it their all while adding to the scoreboard, though they knew how far they were from the slick Wildcats. However, the score wasn’t all that stretched apart throughout the meet.
Down 18-0, some might feel as if the match was already over…but it hadn’t even begun. JR Trent Sorensen slammed six points for the Eagles after a hard fought battle. He then sealed it with a pin as the score became 18-6. Sure, it doesn’t seem like that many points…but everything starts from somewhere. After Sorensen’s pin, the Eagles would go on to score an additional nine points, making it 18-15. Thanks to SR Isaac Olson, he piled up the points for the Eagles, where they were only behind by three at the time. However, the adrenaline and anticipation of the fighters after consecutive victories came to a halt from the Humboldt Wildcats. The only brawl that brought another break for the Wildcats was from FR Levi Langfitt when he added the final six points for the Eagles on Tuesday night, making it 42-21.
By the end of the night, the Humboldt Wildcats marched out of the Eagles gymnasium while stepping into the season with a win on their belt. As for the Eagles, another loss was suffered by the fans. Though only 0-1, the winter sports season itself for the Eagles hasn’t kicked off very well after losing the first competitive matches for all three of their winter sports. However, not all good endings have to start with good beginnings.
The Eagles look to snatch their first win when they face multiple teams versus multiple teams at the Wapsie Valley High School on Saturday, December 4, at 10:00 AM.
