The Bulldogs crushed the Eagles twice on Tuesday night, for boys and girls basketball.
Hoping not to lose yet another match, the Eagle girls traveled to Lake Mills with the goal of winning over the Bulldogs, but most important: to continue the learning process as they are a very young team. The Bulldogs played a young team as well, however, as they will only be losing two seniors next year.
Tipping-off the game, the Bulldogs maintained a steady lead over the Eagles, though they made the Bulldogs work for their lead as they sank 11 points in the first quarter, and let up 22. The end of the first quarter saw a double lead for the Bulldogs, with the lead continuing and increasing as they reached the second quarter. Scoring less, the Eagles continued the fight against the Bulldogs. As the second quarter carried on, the Bulldogs continued to chase after the ball with the mindset of victory. The Eagles carried the same mindset, but were unable to achieve success over the Bulldogs as halftime arrived, with a 37-16 lead for the Bulldogs.
The Eagles jumped right out of the first half and into the second, adding another 11 points to the scoreboard. Defensively, however, the Eagles’ struggle carried on as the Bulldogs put away another 15 points over them. The third quarter came to an end with a 52-27 lead for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs were just eight minutes away from a victory over the Eagles, while the Eagles were eight minutes away from another, difficult loss. More points were scored in the fourth quarter, but not enough for a comeback for the Eagles. The Eagles managed to send seven more points on the scoreboard, while the Bulldogs responded yet again with more, as they added another 12 points. The game ended in another defeat for the Eagles, with a double lead of 64-34 for the Bulldogs.
Only defeating the Bulldogs once in the past seven years, the Eagles on Tuesday night added another loss to the history books of results for all time matchups. However, the next time around when they host the Bulldogs, they’ll be seeking revenge from Tuesday night, and overall revenge after their history in the past seven years. But before that can be accomplished, the Eagles’ next mission is to capture their first victory of the season when they host the Humboldt Wildcats on Thursday, December 16, at 6:15 PM.
