Eagle girls capture first victory this season

At last, the Eagle girls have won their first match of the 2021/2022 winter sports season…and what a match it was!

Friday night saw the first win from the Eagle girls team, as they hosted North Iowa Bison. The Eagle girls opened the match playing much more aggressive than the Bison, as their pressure on the ball offensively proved they were the better team that night.

The first quarter saw a bit of a slow start to the game, as the Bison scored only two points with the Eagles scoring seven. The second quarter saw even more aggressiveness from the Eagles, as the girls scored the most amount of points in the second. Steal-after-steal, the Eagles capitalized on the Bison’s mistakes. The speed from the Eagles increased their scoring opportunities which increased their lead throughout the duration of the game. With the second quarter complete, the Eagles scored 13 points while the Bison scored seven. The score resulted at 20-9 by half-time, with the Eagles holding a comfortable lead.

The third quarter saw a strong comeback from the Bison, who scored 13 points while the Eagles scored nine. As the game reached its final quarter, the Eagles were up 29-22. One can only imagine the nerves starting to grow in the players and fans as the Eagles were just eight minutes away from their first win this season after a streak of devastating defeats. However, the pressure from the Eagles was like the downpouring of heavy rain that Friday night, and there was no way North Iowa could avoid it. Though both teams scored a similar amount of buckets, it was the Eagles who prevailed and won their first match of the season. The fourth quarter ended with 12 points for the Eagles and ten for the Bison, resulting in a 41-32 triumph for the Eagles.

Next for the Eagles is an away matchup versus St. Edmond Gaels on Monday, Jan. 10, with tip-off set for 6:15 PM.
