VS. CLARION-GOLDFIELD-DOWS
The Eagle girls lost another hard-fought battle last week, which started off from a crushing defeat against the CGD Cowgirls.
The game kicked off hot for the Cowgirls, and cold for the Eagles as the Eagles struggled to make it in the paint and create opportunities. Instead, the Eagles were denied, intercepted, and at times lost the ball from the heavy pressure of the Cowgirls. With the strong and capitalizing reactions from the Cowgirls, the first quarter closed 15-3 with the Eagles trailing by 12 points. The second quarter saw much more promise from the Eagles, as the girls poured 13 points on the Cowgirls. With the offense playing their part and capturing crucial points, the defensive side lacked as they allowed 14 points from the Cowgirls. The first half came to a 29-16 close with the CGD Cowgirls in the lead.
The second half started even colder for the Eagles, while even hotter for the Cowgirls. The Eagles entered the second half, scoring only a point in the third quarter while letting up 24 from the Cowgirls. The fourth quarter saw a slow finish to the game, as it was fair to say the Cowgirls had already won the game. The fourth quarter closed with seven points from the Eagles and eight from the Cowgirls. The game ended 61-24 with the Cowgirls on top.
Next for the Eagles was Belmond-Klemme, as the Eagles hosted the Broncos on Tuesday, Jan. 18.
VS. BELMOND-KLEMME
Following the defeat from the CGD Cowgirls, the Eagle Grove Eagles saw another defeat as they hosted the Belmond-Klemme Broncos.
The match started off strong from the Broncos while slow from the Eagles, as they only managed to score five points while the Broncos scored 16. The second quarter saw similar results as the struggle from the Eagles continued, only scoring three points to close the first half. The first half ended 34-8 with the Broncos holding a comfortable lead.
The second half saw a weak start from the Broncos, as the defense held them to only nine points. This would’ve been the most perfect and crucial time for the Eagles to capitalize and add an abundance of points–however the Eagles struggled to do so as they only added five points to the scoreboard, ending the third quarter with a score of 43-13. The Eagles were finished off by the Broncos, scoring one point in the fourth quarter. Witnessing 14 points scored by the Broncos, the game concluded 57-14 with the Broncos on top.
The Eagles faced Bishop Garrigan next, as the Golden Bears hosted the Eagles on Friday, Jan. 21.
VS. BISHOP GARRIGAN
Friday night was a difficult result to accept. Hosted by the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears, the Eagles were defeated 73-12.
The first quarter saw no mercy from the Golden Bears as they took off scoring 22 points over the visiting Eagles. Conceding 22, the Eagles struggled to deny and deliver, as they only added four points to close the first quarter. The domination continued as the Golden Bears slammed 19 points over the Eagles, who scored two points before the end of the first half. Down 41-6, the Eagles ended the first half with severe struggle while outclassed by the Golden Bears.
Approaching the second half, the Eagles delivered more pressure, scoring six points and increasing their points to 12. The Golden Bears, however, had no problem as they added 16 points over the Eagles. For the Eagles, the third quarter was the end of their game offensively as they scored zero points in the fourth quarter while conceding 16. The match ended 73-12 with the Golden Bears on top.
Hosted by the Golden Bears, the struggle was clear given the fact that Bishop Garrigan’s record was 11-3 at the time, compared to the 2-12 Eagle Grove Eagles.
Though the game ended 73-12, the Eagles set their focus on their next opponents, which were the Lake Mills Bulldogs as they hosted the Bulldogs on Tuesday, January 25.
