Eagle boys concede two losses as regular season comes to an end

VS. WEST HANCOCK
It was the Eagles…vs. the Eagles last Monday night. Hosted by West Hancock, Eagle Grove battled their 10-11 conference competitor as the season neared its end. Either way, an Eagle was going home a winner that night.

The first quarter saw dominance from West Hancock, who scored 14 points right in the beginning. Scoring six, Eagle Grove were trailing by eight points as they approached the second quarter. Nearly identical to the first quarter, West Hancock continued their dominance over Eagle Grove. West Hancock scored one point less than they did during the first quarter, as they added 13 points over Eagle Grove. Conceding 13 points, Eagle Grove were stuck with six as another eight minutes went by with only six points added to the scoreboard. 27-12 ended the first half with West Hancock on top.
Charging through the third quarter, West Hancock crushed 22 points over Eagle Grove, who struggled defensively the entire night. Scoring three points higher, Eagle Grove added nine points to the scoreboard in the third quarter. The score sat at 49-21 with Eagle Grove down by 28 points. And then the fourth quarter came. It wasn’t a quarter with an outstanding comeback, rather a conclusion to the match played. West Hancock finished the match scoring 16 points while Eagle Grove scored eight. The game ended 65-29 with West Hancock claiming their 10th win of the season and Eagle Grove claiming their 18th loss.
As the season reached its end, Eagle Grove had one final opponent to take on in the regular season. That opponent was the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Cardinals, as they traveled to Garner for the last regular season matchup last Tuesday night.

VS. GARNER-HAYFIELD-VENTURA
The final match of the regular season had arrived.
Hosted by GHV, the Eagles went into the game with hopes for an exciting conclusion to this season, especially for the seniors as it was their final regular season matchup as a high school student.
The game started strong…for GHV. The Cardinals controlled most of the game though the Eagles continuously fought back. Conceding 16 points, the Eagles managed to score four points in the first quarter. Down by 12, the Eagles went into the second quarter hoping for a comeback before the end of the first half. A comeback was not what came, however, as the Cardinals scored another 16 points. The Eagles, scoring a point more than the first quarter, ended the first half with nine points. They were down 32-9 as they approached half-time.

The second half saw much more aggression and improvements offensively from the visiting team. Scoring 11 points in the third quarter, the Eagles increased their score to 20 while the Cardinals added 15 points to their lead, making it a 47-20 lead for the Cardinals. The final quarter of the final regular season matchup came, and what better way to end the final eight minutes of the game than scoring three points more in the fourth quarter. The Eagles ended their season scoring 13 points, with a possible final three pointer from the “Half-Court Crusher”, Jaden Armstead. The Cardinals scored ten points in the fourth quarter, as they won the overall game 57-33.
With the arrival of the end of the season, the Eagles were set to face Kuemper Catholic at Kuemper Catholic High School for the 2A-3 First Round. The game took place Monday, Feb. 14, at 8 PM.
