Eagle girls clinch first round over Ogden

The Eagles hosted the Ogden Bulldogs Saturday night, where they competed in the Region 3 First Round. Both teams finished 2-19 during the regular season, but at the start of Saturday night’s game, nothing else mattered but the game at hand.

The game saw a sluggish opening from both teams, as both the Eagles and Bulldogs struggled offensively. Both teams performed equally, though the Bulldogs went up 9-8 at the end of the first quarter. Down by a single point, and heading to the second quarter, the Eagles were determined for improvement. It was their time to capture the lead. The second quarter certainly displayed that mindset as the Eagles added 11 points to their score, giving them a three point lead over the Bulldogs who scored five. The score rested at 19-16 with the Eagles in the driver’s seat. However, there were still 16 more minutes to be played. The game was far from over.

Hoping for a dominant third quarter to “put the game away”, the Eagles continued to struggle defensively as the Bulldogs capitalized. Struggling with incomplete passes transitioning into turnovers, the Bulldogs took charge in the third quarter as they scored eight points while the Eagles scored five. This meant the game was even at 24 points as the final quarter arrived. The Eagles fought back valiantly in the fourth quarter, as they ignited confidence and aggression through the remainder of the quarter. Scoring 13 points, the Eagles secured the win over the Bulldogs who scored only five. The game ended 37-29 with the Eagles clinching a hard-fought victory in the first round.

The Eagles’ next matchup was against the Dike-New Hartford Wolverines, as the Wolverines hosted the game on Tuesday, Feb. 15 to determine who would be moving onto the semi-final.
