Eagle girls suffer double losses to end regular season

VS. WEST HANCOCK
The Eagle girls suffered another heartbreaking loss this season, as they were dominated by fellow Eagles, and Top of Iowa conference rivals, West Hancock.
The match started off with the strongest performance from both teams, though West Hancock shattered the scoreboard scoring 25 points to open the game. Scoring only six points in the first quarter, this would be the highest amount of points scored in a quarter for Eagle Grove. The second quarter saw another dominant eight minutes from West Hancock as they scored 17 points over the Eagles who added three before the end of the first half. The score rested at 42-9 as half-time arrived.
The third quarter saw similar performances from both teams. Continuing their struggle defensively, the girls conceded 21 points in the third quarter while scoring five points. Finishing the game, and scoring just a single point in the last quarter, the Eagles scored 15 points in total, as they were bested by West Hancock who scored 74.

Next up for the Eagles were Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, as they were set to face the Cardinals on Feb. 8 for their final game in the regular season.

VS. GARNER-HAYFIELD-VENTURA
Back-to-back losses for the Eagles as the season comes to an end.
The first quarter saw three points scored by the Eagles as they conceded 25 from the dominant GHV Cardinals. The second quarter saw a much more competitive eight minutes with a major lack of offense from both teams. The Cardinals, who scored 25 points in the first quarter, scored only five points in the second while the Eagles scored two. Finishing the first half with a score of 30-7, the Cardinals gained a 23 point lead.

The second half opened similarly as the first half with the Cardinals repeatedly scoring points over the Eagles, who struggled throughout the game defensively and offensively. The Eagles added seven points while conceding 17 in the third quarter. As the final quarter of the final game in the regular season approached, the Eagles finished the game scoring three points and conceding 18. The game ended 65-15 with the Cardinals on top.
Next for the Eagles were the Ogden Bulldogs for the Class 2A – Region 3 First Round. The Eagles hosted the Bulldogs on Feb. 12, where they battled a team who was also 2-19.
