The Eagles took on the Knights last Monday night, as the Knights hosted the 2A-3 First Round matchup. The winner of the game determines who would take on South Central Calhoun on the 17th. Though they put up a tough fight, the Eagles were bested by the Knights 89-44.
The game took off with the Knights doubling their points over the Eagles, as they scored 25 over the Eagles who scored 12. The second quarter saw similar performances from both teams as the Knights scored 26 points versus the Eagles who scored 11. Stellar defensive performances came from SO Drake Canavan, as he contributed a total of eight defensive rebounds for the Eagles. The score rested at 51-23 at half-time with the Knights in the lead.
The second half saw a decrease in offensive dominance from the Knights, thanks to steals and blocks from Drake Canavan, Jaden Armstead, and Noah Thul. Though the defense improved in the second half, the offense saw continued struggle, only scoring 12 points while conceding 19. As the fourth quarter arrived, the Eagles continued their efforts despite the score displayed. Jaden “Half-Court Crusher” Armstead sank his final half-court shot as an Eagle. What a moment for him, and the Eagle Grove Eagles. Though the game ended 89-44, the Eagles spirit never ceased as they gave it their all during the match, and the entirety of the season.
This 2021/2022 season is the final basketball season for seniors Jensen Cooper, Titan Christensen, and Jaden Armstead.
