Eagle Grove’s own Galen Andrews has won $30,000, the top prize in the Iowa Lottery’s “Bonus Crossword” game. To win, Andrews beat the odds against winning anything of 1 in 3.52 and also nabbed the 114th of 144 $30,000 top prizes. The Bonus Crossword game is a $3 scratch-off ticket.
Andrews bought his ticket at Caseys, at 33280 335th St. in Minden. He claimed his prize on Friday, March 11th, at the Iowa lottery regional office in Mason City.
Iowa launched its lottery in 1985. Since then, players have won more than $5 billion in prizes. More than 2.2 billion has been raised for state programs in the same time. Today, lottery proceeds are used to support the Iowa Veterans Fund, helping Iowa veterans and their families, and to help the families of Iowa peace officers, firefighters, and corrections workers who die in the line of duty. The lottery also provides funds to a variety of projects through the state’s General Fund.
