Hooray! Daylight Savings Time and the first day of Spring is here. Soon we will see the grass turning green, birds singing and the sounds of neighborhood children playing outside. Spring is a wonderful time of year, which reminds us that life continually renews itself.
The recipe that I am sharing this week is another family favorite (especially my husbands). Unfortunately, it is not a low calorie recipe but a treat for sure. On a good note, it is a great way to make good use of stale bread that is not getting eaten. It will absorb the egg and milk mixture better than using a fresh loaf of bread.
Grandma Krahling's Good Bread Pudding
2 c. milk | 2 eggs, slightly beaten |
4 c coarse bread | 1/4 tsp. salt |
1/2 c. butter | 2/3 c. raisins |
1/2 c. sugar | 1 tsp. vanilla |
1/4 c. chopped nuts |
Top the recipe with Cool whip or vanilla ice cream.
Mix all ingredients together. Bake in a casserole dish at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the middle comes out clean. Note: I cut the crust off the bread but this is optional. I also have doubled the recipe and used a 9 x 13 pan.
