In the days before social media, it used to be pretty common in local newspapers to see social event listings that talked about who hosted who for a special dinner, a weddings section, club events and more. It was often enough to fill whole pages. Just as it fills many of our newsfeeds on Facebook, Twitter, or Tik-Tok, etc. these days – alongside the latest fad, trend, or tom foolery today.
Well, we've decided to bring that back, in our new Happenings column. Happenings will be just a simple bulleted list of events that happened recently, for those who want a more permanent record than a fleeting social media post. Everything on this weekly list will have two things in common:
1: Someone involved reached out to us to ask us to put it on here.
2: Every event listed here literally ends up in the history books, not lost in cyberspace.
So without further ado, here's the recent happenings people wanted to share:
-
March 8: Chapter EJ P.E.O. met at the home of Denise Helmick. Ann Wilde was co-hostess and Dianne Reiland had the program on our six international projects.
-
March 22: Chapter EJ P.E.O. met at the home of Barb Forbes. Bev Wilde, Cheryl Jacobson, Muriel Gearhart, and Betty Wilde were co-hostess's. The program was Exemplification of the Ceremony of Initiation.
-
March 22: Stan Johnson, the Lions Club district governor, spoke at a meeting of the Eagle Grove Lions Club. Becky Wachowiak was recognized as a returning member.
