The Alternative: Agreeing to Disagree

I had a “loved one” mention how the war is uniting us. After I came to and picked myself up off the ground I called her back and asked if she was going. Well no, “I’ve got my cats and dog to take care of.” Oh, so we are united, in having somebody else in a war then.

My loved one and I had been at odds on recent issues since she found a boyfriend with a political science degree. Usually any conversation that goes deeper than, “How’s Fido doing?” switches subjects to more fluff after a quick, “We’ll just have to agree to disagree.”

I remember in 8th grade speech class I took the easy side in a debate about banning cigarettes. A photo of a black lung and some statistics on lifespan and cost made it a cinch in this already autocratic country.

I did receive a reply to a column about student debt that was a meme stating “I don’t mean to brag but I’m pretty good at worrying about s*** that I have absolutely no control over.” My reply to this person, actually someone who shows more love than the “loved one,” was that maybe some grandma read that column and convinced her grandson to get a job instead of going to college for debt and indoctrination. Rome wasn’t built in a day.

There’s a real problem with “agree to disagree.” Lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, even automatic transmissions contribute to this problem. The incredible shrinking mind.

When this next solar flare gets here, will we change lanes into a motorcycle, making a widow and orphans out of a happy family? The issues we guess at for truth today do come to haunt us eventually. Check out the crappy dollar in your hand, known to sheeple as rising prices.

Now I’m back to talking about war. People united around (but not in) the war are also united in ignorance concerning their position. Complexity does not sell TV advertising. Less than a year ago Ukraine was in the news for being at the center of European Neo Nazi movements. Now they are a pillar of democracy.

In 2014, Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs, Victoria Nuland orchestrated the overthrow of democratically elected President Viktor Yanukovych, in favor of Neo-Nazi ultra-nationalists. They allied with Islamic jihadists to exclude the ethnic Russians of the East. War has been a way of life in the Donbas region since then, with Russian allied separatists exchanging fire with Ukrainians.

First, the threat of sanctions did nothing to stop the Russian invasion. Now they are doing nothing to stop its continuation. What they have done is isolate the west from trade with a nation rich in raw materials and nuclear weapons. But the U.S. peasants, infatuated with their screens, have no idea what interacting with humans is all about. They think we order what we want from the gods in D.C. and it comes, like farm subsidies and unemployment, that we are “owed” if we aren’t offered “suitable work.”

Russia needs nothing from the West. On the other hand, shortages of wheat, potash, gas, oil, palladium, and nickel will mangle Western economies. As other countries become Russia’s customers it is likely the dollar will be ditched as world reserve currency. That will be the end of any U.S. advantage in world markets. With all the government debt on top of that we will be a third world country and wonder what the heck happened, while agreeing to disagree all the way down.
