Public hearings on downtown housing projects scheduled for April 18th

Most of the business taken up by the City Council at the meeting held April 4th was pushed ahead to a series of public hearings scheduled to occur on April 18th, starting at 6:30 PM. Nearly all of the business pushed ahead had to do with the funding of downtown housing projects that are part of the overall Eagle Grove revitalization plan. The council went through the required protocols for setting each hearing in a repetitive fashion, answering a smattering of basic questions from board members about the amounts of funding and the beneficiaries. All of which will be further discussed, no doubt, at the April 18th hearings.

At the close of the meeting Chief Ray Beltran of the Eagle Grove Police Department reported that the officers would be undergoing some additional training at a class on OWI procedures and reports, and a training centering on managing K9 searches. He also indicated that the department is still hiring, and looking for the right candidates.

Mayor Sandy McGrath, in her Mayor's Report segment of the meeting, made a brief mention of the fact that avian flu (aka bird flu) is "slowly encircling Wright County" but that thankfully, there had been no cases in the county detected as of yet. Millions of birds in Iowa flocks have been put down due to the avian flu so far this year.
