Following their races at Dodger Stadium in Fort Dodge the previous Friday, the Eagle Grove Special Olympians were honored with an awards assembly on Monday, April 11, with the elementary and middle school student body all cheering them on. "These special Olympians might be people in your class, grade, school, or community and they want many of the same opportunities afforded to everyone in this gym," commented Jared Carder, Eagle Grove Elementary Principal.
The assembly was very special to the participants with the children and others present giving each Olympian a "two power clap" as they each received their medals. In closing the program, the words of the Special Olympic motto was recited, "Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt."
All first place winners will compete at the Iowa State University campus on May 19-21.
