Iowa ended April with 62.38% of Iowans fully vaccinated, with 1,954,205 reporting being at least fully vaccinated if not also boosted, and the older they are, the more likely they are to be at least partially vaccinated. According to the most recent tally from the Center for Disease Control.
Wright County lags closely behind those rates, however, with only 56.57% being fully vaccinated, and 60.5% having received at least one dose.
Overall, Iowa ranks 27th in COVID-19 response by vaccination rate. And with a death toll of over 9,500 and still climbing, hearts are broken all over the Hawkeye state as Iowa closes in on 10,000 deaths.
Nationwide, there have been over 81 million cases and the USA is closing in on one million deaths. And while America is getting back to pre-COVID routines, the nation does so in the face of a once again increasing trend of cases and hospitalizations, which have been soaring upward over the past month. Nationwide, cases have more than doubled since the end of March, which ended at 33,300 cases, while at the end of April the nation had 78,910 known cases. As April closed out, the country was seeing 2,000 new cases per week.
Fortunately, even as cases spike once again, the death rate is declining, as more of those hospitalized are vaccinated as compared to earlier stages of the pandemic.
