Supervisors Award FY 2023 Fuel Bids, Contemplate Cybersecurity

At the Monday morning meeting of the Wright County Board of Supervisors, Wright County Engineer Adam Clemons presented Fiscal Year 2023 Fuel Bids for consideration, noting the county received the largest amount of bids ever with five companies vying for the award. The award went to the lowest bid from Ag Advantage, who offered $.078 over rack price.

The group also discussed renewal of property and workers compensation insurance with Jay LeFavre of First Gabrielson Agency and members of the county insurance committee. LeFavre reviewed current coverage, praising the courthouse leadership for safe practices leading to low numbers of workers compensation claims. In discussing current property coverage, LeFavre expressed concerns over the amount of coverage in place if the courthouse suffered damages needing a total replacement, and encouraged the group to investigate increasing coverage from $12 million to at least $30 million. In order to increase property coverage, the courthouse will need to adopt multi-factor authentication for system and email logins as additional cybersecurity precaution. The group agreed, and will call a department head meeting at the courthouse to brief staff on those upcoming changes and asked LeFavre to come back to a future meeting with more information on cost and coverage needed.

Wright County Public Health Director Sandra McGrath gave an update, stating the overall COVID-19 status of the county, and reminding the group that adults over 50 are still encouraged to get a second booster, and that vaccinations for children ages 0-5 are anticipated by the end of June 2022. McGrath also shared that Public Health intends to partner with the Wright County Fair to offer a vaccine clinic as well as a Stop The Bleed workshop during fair week July 6-10.

A third reading of Ordinance #64 proposing repealing and replacing Planning and Zoning Ordinance #5 was tabled until Monday, June 20th, citing new information that may change the ordinance. Supervisor Karl Helgevold estimated that a complete reread may be necessary if substantial changes are required.

Chairman Rick Rasmussen gave a brief update to the status of potable water at the Wright County Agribusiness Park outside of Eagle Grove, stating the county is working with a contractor to install a rock-based particle filter to insure safe water quality at the park.
