Eagles battle Cubs in thrilling back and forth at Greenwood

The Eagles baseball crew hosted the Nevada Cubs in an out of conference match on the 7th. Tied for the lead in the Top of Iowa West conference, the Eagles boys faced the 5-5 Cubs in their home diamond at Eagle Grove’s Greenwood Park.

The Cubs took an early initiative, and very quickly established a strong lead with 3 runs in the top of the first inning, and then 4 runs topping off the 2nd. 7 to none by the middle of the second is an imposing lead but the Eagles were down, but not out.

First the Eagles got on the scoreboard with a bottom of the 2nd run to finish the inning 7 to 1. Then they cut two more notches into the scoreboard in the bottom of the third, while holding the Cubs back from the plate, and then denied the Cubs any runs in the 4th as well to end both innings 7 to 3. The Eagles then really took the fight to the Cubs in the 5th, catching up with 4 runs to match the Cubs 2nd inning performance, truly tying up the game.

After a 6th inning with a frozen scoreboard Nevada managed a single run, and then held off the Eagles to take the win by 1.
