The St. Edmunds Gaels baseball and softball teams made the trek to Eagle Grove’s Greenwood Park to take on the Eagles teams on their home turf last Thursday.
For the baseball teams playing an evening game the first inning was scoreless. But from there on the Eagles smashed hit after hit and run after run, utterly dominating the Gaels. Rocking out 11 hits in 31 at bats to St. Edmond’s 4 in 25, the Eagles plated 2 runs in the 2nd, 1 in the 4th, and another 2 in the 5th. All while the Eagles kept the Gaels from running across the home plate at all.
In the 6th St. Ed’s finally managed to get on the scoreboard, plating a single run, which Eagle Grove matched. Neither team would let the other score in the 7th and so the decisive victory went to the Eagles, 6 to 1.
In Softball Eagle Grove didn’t fare as well as the Gaels seemed to have come to play. The Gaels girls went 1, 2, and 1 in the 1st through the 3rd while the Eagles struggled to find their feet. But the 4th inning turned into a regular slugfest, with the Eagles scoring 4, and the Gaels scoring 11.
Going into the 4th the question was would the Eagles turn it around, or would the Gaels pile even more runs on? The answer turned out to be more piling on, as the Eagles came up empty in the 4th, as St. Ed’s put another 4 on the board. Both teams then went scoreless the rest of the game, leaving St. Edmonds with the victory a whopping 19 to 4.
